Responsible for:

VIAM are looking to recruit an Operations Manager within our Utilities Division to lead our Telecoms and Water Metering teams with proven experience in the Telecoms sector and particularly on the fibre installation to be based at our Skelmersdale Depot. This is an opportunity to be an integral part of our fast-growing Utilities division at an exciting time. The successful applicant must have extensive experience on managing contracts in Telecoms and Metering.

Your main responsibility will be to efficiently manage the programme of works whilst providing strong leadership for the operational and planning function and to act as an ambassador for VIAM with the client. The role will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of the contracts from mobilising teams to delivering day to day performance for our clients. 

You will ensure that commercial and operational delivery targets are met, adequate resources are deployed, effectively managed and monitored and that the relevant personnel within the team are trained and accredited to ensure safety / quality standards are met first time.

Desired Skills

  • Extensive experience within the Telecoms and Water Metering
  • Extensive experience of managing high performing teams, across business-critical contracts
  • Extensive understanding of building new fibre infrastructure and associated network builds
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • IT Literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Full UK Driving Licence


  • Educated to degree standard within relevant field (Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management) or;
  • 10 years’ experience within sector/ industry
  • NEC Certification (desirable)
  • Project Management qualifications (desirable)


  • Strong people management skills
  • Strong Understanding on NEC3 contracts
  • Able to take and be accountable for decisions within the contract
  • Customer relationship management
  • IT and data analysis skills
  • Ability to understand commercial contracts
  • Demonstrates ability to implement and meet targets within contracts
  • Has a clear understanding of contract and related market dynamics
  • Has a clear understanding of the working capital cycle and importance of cash
  • Experience of working within an agreed budget
  • Understanding of relevant Health and Safety guidelines
  • People management experience
  • Demonstrates developed communication, relationship management and influencing skills
